Challenge: Create an installation in a 2ft by 2ft area.
For this project, I want to address how light can be used to create shapes. This inspiration came from an exercise to imagine my ceiling as a floor. I was very interested in how lighting fixtures threw shadows on the ceiling in different ways. The box will be constructed out of mat board. The image on the left will be cut out of the "ceiling" of my installation. I will attach a light source to the top of the box to create the shadows in the space. I want to take dollhouse lamps and put them in the space, upside down, with smaller lamps on top of them. The bottom of the upside down lamps now become a table. I might experiment with putting small items from dollhouses on them, too. I want this to be an abstract living room, which is why I will include couches for the "viewer" to sit on in the space. I want the viewer to be able to turn the lamps on and off, to allow them to interact with the piece. They can change how much light is in the environment and create different moods. I want to try using colored cellophane in the top to make a simulated stained glass that the viewer can change.
