My piece is coming along! I have placed the first round of greenery in the space, as shown in the picture. I went to my parents' home and found more greenery that I will be placing this Wednesday. The carpet will be removed and replaced with the moss mat that I have gotten for this project. I will be getting more of the large tropical stems to put on the shelf to cover more of the negative spaces. I want to get more moss to cover the floral foam on the ground, as well. I really like the ferns that are on the ground, I plan on getting some more of them this week. I may remove the shelf once I get more greenery in the space. I also will be lowering the garland so it touches the floor to cover more of the wall space. Overall, this should be completed by Friday, June 8th.
Statement Draft 1
Nature is all around us, but what can we learn from just taking a minute to sit down and enjoy it? Something that has been a part of my life is learning to slow down and relax. We are immersed in our busy lives and technology, but what good does that do for us? My aim of this piece is to make the viewer pause. By taking a moment to sit back and enjoy the lush space, we can be rejuvenated and connected to our natural world. In this piece, I have used different types of greenery to fill the space. My goal was to completely fill the space to block out distractions and most man-made objects. Garland is hung on the walls to block the walls, while there are various other plants on the ground. The plants on the ground are held in floral foam. The viewer can sit or stand on the moss mat to take a moment to breath and clear their mind. There are two water features that are circulating to provide soothing water sounds, like sitting by a river.
