This week, we were to work with perishable materials. I chose something that I eat almost every day, bananas. My bunch of bananas was going bad, so why not use them for something interesting! I took four bananas and peeled them like I normally would. I noticed that when they peeled, they had a specific way that they curved. I had also eaten an orange earlier in the day, so I used the peels to add more color. Some of the peels I had used the day before and saved, so they are much more dark.
I really liked working with something that I take for granted. We eat to survive, and as an artist, I have a need to create to survive. The first set of photos were taken at the time of completion. The second set were taken only an hour after I had put it outside. I knew that if I left it inside, my cats would mess with it. The heat must have sped up the process, and I did not realize how fast bananas can change!
