Artist Statement Since I was young, art has been a passion of mine. I explored different media throughout my childhood. In times of stress, I went to art to find peace.
I began using 35mm film in early 2009 at the end of my junior year in high school. At that time, I was studying drawing and painting, which I had been doing since 2007. My teacher learned I was interested in photography and approached me about it. Without any instruction, she said, "Let's see what you can do." I shot my first roll of film, developed it, and printed the contact sheet. That Fall, I was put in Advanced Placement 2D Design with a focus in photography.
I continued my love of photography in to college. My work became more about topics instead of objects or people that I saw. My professor pushed me to develop a personal voice and aesthetic. During difficult times in my life, I went back to the darkroom to find myself and who I am.
Since my education, my work has been focused on capturing natural scenes around me. The world is full of interesting moments if we open up to it. Even though I shoot some larger scenes, I try to get detail images that make the viewer think about where they are.
